Types of Adverbs in daily life.


Objectives

•           To teach what an Adverb is.

•           To teach different kinds of Adverbs.

•           To teach correctly the rules and how to write a sentence using Adverbs.

What is an Adverb?

An adverb is a word or a set of words that modifies verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. It tells when, where, and how an action is performed or indicates the quality or degree of the action. The adverb is placed after the verb it modifies. 

Examples of adverbs:

(Subject + Verb + Adverb) (ending with “ly”;-)

He runs quickly.

She walks slowly.

Jonny eats fast.

·         Different types of Adverbs in sentences.

Example;  

Adverbs – describes verbs                = He speaks loudly. / He drives the car fast.

Adverbs – describes adjectives         = It was a really exciting trip.

Adverbs – describes adverb             = she works incredibly hard


·         TWO TYPES OF ADVERBS.

1.      Adverbs of Manner. (how something happens)

2.      Adverbs of Time/Frequency. (when something happens?) 

    Ø Adverbs of Manner. (how something happens? )

Adverbs of manner provides more information about how a verb is done. And most of them will end in ‘Ly”.

i.                    She dances beautifully.

ii.                  He left the hostel quickly.                                               

iii.                Mike is walking slowly.

iv.                Make sure you write neatly.

Exercise 01.

 Chose the most suitable words given insides of the sentences.

1.      She spoke ……………. Warm/warmly.

2.      He put the dishes away …………tidy/tidly.

3.      She answered the all questions ……… cleverly/clever.

4.      The baby rubbed her eyes ……….. tired/tiredly.

5.      Nimal is driving the bus ………… carefully/careful.


Ø Adverbs of time/frequency. (when/ how often something happens?)

 An adverb of time/frequency indicate the time or frequency of the action in the sentence.




i.                    He bought that car recently.                                           

ii.                  I saw Anne today. \ I see Anne every day in school.

iii.                I will return your laptop soon.

iv.                I have to leave now.

v.                  He smokes occasionally. 




Exercise 02.

Use given below adverbs in given brackets.

(always, for a week, Sunday, today, often, Normally)

i.                    I listen to classical music ………..

ii.                  He ………. eats non-vegetarian food.

iii.                John ……….gets a high mark.

iv.                I am going on vacation ………..

v.                  I will call you ……….

Exercise 03.
