- What is a verb?
A verb is a word that tells about an action or a
state. It is the main part of a sentence that tells us what the subject
performs.
Two types of Verbs
1. Transitive Verb
2. Intransitive Verb
· Transitive Verbs
A transitive verb is a verb that has a definite object on which, or for which the action is being performed. And it requires an object to complete their meanings such as bring, hit, give, carry, climb, make, kiss, take, love, eat, drink, etc.
Examples:
- My mother is making a cake.
- Nick kicked the ball.
- Santa gave me a present.
- She loves Ben.
- I like an ice-cream.
- The girl carry water to their village.
- I bought a car.
- John watched a movie last night.
An intransitive verb is a type of verb that shows action but here, there is no specific object on which the action is being done such as live, die, laugh, cry, sleep, smile, fly, flow, run, paint etc.
Example:
- I laughed loudly.
- Your baby cries a lot.
- Sun rose. /
- John is sleeping.
- Rivers flow. /
- The baby smiled.
